At the WSJ Tech Live conference in Napa, California, OpenAI President Greg Brockman disclosed significant new financial figures for the artificial intelligence company. Following a competitive first half of 2026, the company experienced a pronounced revenue inflection point during the third quarter. According to Brockman, the company's annualized run-rate reached approximately 70 billion US dollars, driven by rapid corporate adoption.
For the first time in the organization's history, B2B enterprise revenue surpassed the 50 percent threshold of total sales, rising from approximately 30 percent at the start of the year. Brockman acknowledged on stage that the opening six months of 2026 had been difficult amid intense market rivalry with Anthropic. However, the subsequent launch of GPT-5.6 Sol alongside the expansion of ChatGPT Work altered commercial momentum decisively in OpenAI's favor.
Major institutional clients in the financial sector served as primary catalysts for this revenue acceleration after concluding lengthy evaluation phases. Brockman pointed specifically to JPMorgan Chase as a key enterprise partner. The major bank has rolled out company-wide contracts for agent-based systems and automated workflows, embedding OpenAI tools into core analytical and operational processes across its workforce.
The expansion across corporate accounts provides a more stable balance sheet as OpenAI prepares for an anticipated initial public offering in 2027. The company recently secured approximately 11 billion US dollars in financing commitments to support its infrastructure investments. Institutional investors view recurring, multi-year enterprise contracts as a far more resilient revenue base than consumer subscriptions, which remain vulnerable to rapid churn.
This enterprise focus is also reshaping technical development priorities for frontier AI models. Corporate buyers, particularly heavily supervised financial institutions, demand deterministic task execution, rigorous data privacy standards, and auditable governance protocols. OpenAI must demonstrate that its autonomous agents can operate reliably within tightly regulated workflows to sustain its current growth trajectory over the coming quarters.
