A primary finding of the IBM study highlights shifting audience expectations regarding data quality. Millimeter-accurate and verified information ranks as the top priority for 44 percent of respondents, whereas only 23 percent favor sheer delivery speed. Furthermore, 45 percent identify precision as the decisive driver of their trust in algorithmically generated match analyses. Sports audiences increasingly demand verifiable rigor rather than superficial real-time snippets.
The report also documents a pronounced divide between experienced users and skeptical observers. Fans who already maintain regular touchpoints with AI systems trust algorithmic evaluations nearly three times as often as individuals without prior contact. While 74 percent of active users express confidence in AI analyses, that proportion drops to just 27 percent among non-users. This gap demonstrates that skepticism diminishes when the tangible utility of data-driven tools becomes evident in practice.
At the same time, the survey records an important milestone in viewing habits for live events. Dedicated streaming subscriptions have become the preferred medium for live sports for 30 percent of fans, edging out traditional linear television at 29 percent for the first time. Respondents attribute this shift primarily to personalized on-demand features and detailed interactive statistics that standard television broadcasts cannot easily incorporate.
However, the rapid spread of automated systems faces noticeable friction during controversial match incidents, as concurrent academic research shows.
